In 1998 Woods was hired to play the part of Don Messer in a series of tribute shows, "Memories of Don Messer Jubilee", after the series' co-founder and fiddler Graham Townsend died. [10] He became music director, and continued to perform in this series for seven years. [4] [11] By 2004, the family band had become the Scott Woods Band.
With the help of siblings Linsey and Tyler Beckett, and former champions Scott Woods and Louis Schryer, they helped to promote the contest and entice new fiddlers to sign up for the event. [1] Another major issue impacting the survival of the festival came in 2020, with the cancellation of the contest due to the pandemic. [ 15 ]

The Maritime Fiddle Festival is an annual heritage music festival with the goal of preserving and celebrating traditional music. Nova Scotia in particular found itself with a variety of Canadian fiddle styles, namely Cape Breton style (largely Celtic in origin), 'Down East' (popularized by Don Messer, largely connected to old-time and Celtic styles), and Acadian.
