Silas impales her with a fireplace poker when Stefan calls him to say that he has Amara and if he does not find them in ten minutes, he will take her away and keep her alive forever. Silas leaves to find Stefan and Amara. Silas finds Amara tied on a tree and while he tries to untie her, she begs him to kill her.
Kol tells Elena that he believe Silas exists because he used to run with some witches in Africa in the 14th century, Haiti in the 17th century, and New Orleans in the 1900s and they all knew about Silas and how he had to stay buried. Kol shares the myth about Silas, that if he was to raise he would unleash hell on earth.
Although they are attacked, Elena intervenes and they reach the lake house. The next day, Elena scolds Damon for using innocent people; the vampires (controlled by Klaus) will return soon and Damon says, "Jeremy needs to finish the job." Rebekah visits Stefan, telling him she has a plan to steal Silas's headstone (and forcing Shane to join them).
Elena who thinks Stefan is in danger goes to save him from Qetsiyah but ends up trapped as well. Damon and Jeremy help Silas find the anchor of the other side. Qetsiyah reveals to Damon that the anchor is not an object, in fact it's Silas' lost love – Amara. Silas is able to free Amara but she attacks him and takes the cure.
Shane tells Kol and Rebekah about Silas, and how he intends to release him and how Silas will resurrect those who died on his behalf. Rebekah refuses to listen and Kol attempts to drown Shane and impales him, but Bonnie manages to put a protection spell on Shane; but April suffers from the spell due to a link between her and Shane.
Silas, Damon and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) leave for New Jersey while Elena stays behind since Silas does not want her with them. Before they go, Elena makes sure to remind Silas that he has to bring Bonnie back to life before he dies and he promises that he will. Stefan wakes up at Tessa's cabin and seems confused.
Silas then reveals that Stefan is his doppelganger. Silas was the one who created the immortality spell 2000 years ago however, as nature creates a balance for everything, it created a version of Silas that could be killed, a shadow-self which ends up being Stefan. Silas then locks Stefan into a vault and drowns him in the river.
Caroline has a confusing and dangerous encounter with Klaus, who turns out to be Silas looking for Bonnie. Silas is persistent, and mortally injures Caroline's mother to take her place. Bonnie reaffirms her promise to help Silas open the veil to purgatory, and Caroline has to inject some of her blood into her mother to bring her back to life.
