Copper Mountain is a mountain and ski resort located in Summit County, Colorado, about 75 miles (120 km) west of Denver on Interstate 70. The resort has 2,465 acres (3.9 sq mi; 10.0 km 2 ) of in-bounds terrain under lease from the U.S. Forest Service , White River National Forest , Dillon Ranger District.
Copper Mountain is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Summit County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Breckenridge, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Copper Mountain CDP was 650 at the United States Census 2020. [3]

Frisco was the location of the first official state BBQ challenge in 1993. The event is held annually, and benefits non-profits. In the last fifteen years (to 2012), the event has raised over $500,000. The event moved to Copper Mountain in 2023 and will not continue. [12]
A bike path parallels I-70 from Vail Colorado to the Copper Mountain Ski Area and is the only pass in Colorado with a paved bike path on both sides for the entire distance. [8] This 8.7 mile climb from East Vail with an 1,831 foot (558m) vertical gain and descent to Copper is a popular activity for cyclists during the summer and fall. [9]
Copper Mountain is visible on the right side of this image of Boysen Reservoir. To the left are the Owl Creek Mountains. Copper Mountain is a roughly 8,317 foot mountain in the Bridger Mountains, a small range that straddles the Fremont and Hot Springs County line. [3] The range rises north of Shoshoni, and is split by Wind River Canyon.
Preston is situated above Gold Run Gulch along Dry Gulch Road. The townsite is now National Forest property and is managed by the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance. About 375 feet (114 m) west of the townsite are the remains of the Jumbo mine–consisting of abandoned minecarts, several mounds of tailings, and a few largely collapsed wooden structures.
