The Day the Earth Smiled is a composite photograph taken by the NASA spacecraft Cassini on July 19, 2013. During an eclipse of the Sun , the spacecraft turned to image Saturn and most of its visible ring system , as well as Earth and the Moon as distant pale dots.
This initiative has received support from NASA, the National Science Foundation, and MTU. The images are sometimes authored by people or organizations outside NASA, and therefore APOD images are often copyrighted, unlike many other NASA image galleries. [4] When the APOD website was created, it received a total of 14 page views on its first day.
The year 2024 had major space events including a total solar eclipse and historic moon landing. There were moments, though, that reminded us how challenging space exploration can be.
