The BMW E31 is the first generation of the BMW 8 Series.It is a grand tourer built by BMW from 1990 to 1999 as a 2-door coupé, powered by either a V8 or V12 engine. Whilst it did supplant the original E24 based 6 Series in 1990, it was not a direct successor, but a new model class with a substantially higher price and performance than the 6 Series.

The 850i xDrive is available worldwide, while the 840d xDrive is only available in Europe. [ 23 ] The official kerb weight (measured using the EU methodology) for the 850i xDrive is 1,965 kg (4,332 lb) for the coupe version and 2,090 kg (4,608 lb) for the convertible version.
The B12 5.0 was built from 1990 to 1994 and is based on the BMW E31 850i. It is powered by an Alpina modified BMW M70 V12 (shared with the E32 B12 5.0) producing 257 kW (349 PS; 345 hp) and mated to an automatic transmission.
The BMW M GmbH subsidiary (called BMW Motorsport GmbH until 1993) started making high-performance versions of various BMW models in 1978. Several of the Corgi Junior castings were later reissued as part of Mattel's Hot Wheels line, although most were rather plain and seemed unpopular with Hot Wheels collectors. Most were on sale for only a year or two. One model, the BMW 850i was offered in two castings by Mattel; the former Corgi Jr. and Mattel's own Hot Wheels version.
The S63 is the BMW M version of the N63, which debuted in the BMW X6 M and was used in the BMW M5 models from 2011 to 2023. The S63 uses two twin-scroll turbochargers plus a pulse tuned, cross-engine exhaust manifold [ 8 ] to keep constant exhaust pulses flowing to the turbos at every 180 degree rotation.
BMW M models of X Series and Z Series models typically just have the model name "M" (e.g. X6 M, Z4 M). "M Performance" models have the letter "M" inserted after the series, followed by the rest of the naming convention for the non-M models (e.g. X6 M50d).
