In 2018, Angler was featured on Esquire's list of the best restaurants. [2] Angler has received a Michelin star, meaning "high-quality cooking, worth a stop". [6]Jenna Scatena of Condé Nast Traveler magazine stated that the restaurant served "some of the best modern seafood" in the city, additionally praising the wine menu and "attentive" staff. [1]
The restaurant was opened by Nancy Oakes and her financier Pat Kuleto in the Audiffred Building in 1993. In 2012, she won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant. [4] [5] Nancy won Outstanding Chef in 2015. [6]

Built by San Francisco Zen Center carpenters, the restaurant incorporates 12 types of wood - from the massive black walnut doors, the hickory stairs at the entrance, the curved bar featuring Port-Orford-Cedar, and the dining tables of maple, walnut and cherry.
