Brandon (/ ˈ b r æ n d ə n /) is the second-largest city in the province of Manitoba, Canada.It is located in the southwestern corner of the province on the banks of the Assiniboine River, approximately 214 kilometres (133 mi) west of the provincial capital, Winnipeg, and 120 kilometres (75 mi) east of the Saskatchewan border.
Provincial Trunk Highway 110 (PTH 110), also known as the Brandon Eastern Access Route, is a provincial highway in the vicinity of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada.. PTH 110 is one of the four three-digit urban expressway routes in the Manitoba provincial highway network.
Within Brandon, 18th Street between Victoria Avenue and the current junction with PTH 1 was designated as part of PTH 10 in 1962. PTH 1 was reconfigured to its current route in 1959 [ 8 ] and included as part of the Trans-Canada Highway system three years later.
The city of Brandon is the largest urban centre in the Westman Region. Primary economic industries in the region include agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, education, petroleum, transportation, and tourism. Riding Mountain National Park and eight provincial parks are located within Westman.
On 15 July 1916, the 181st Battalion (Brandon), CEF was authorized for service and on 18 April 1917, the battalion embarked for Great Britain. After its arrival in the UK, on 30 April 1917, the battalion's personnel were absorbed by the 18th Reserve Battalion, CEF to provide reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field.
