The guppy (Poecilia reticulata), also known as millionfish or the rainbow fish, [3] is one of the world's most widely distributed tropical fish and one of the most popular freshwater aquarium fish species. It is a member of the family Poeciliidae and, like almost all American members of the family, is live-bearing. [4]

P. picta forms a clade with P. parae that is a sister taxon to the common guppy, P. reticulata. [2] Some authorities place the species in the genus Poecilia, subgenus Lebistes, along with P. reticulata, P. parae, P. branneri, and P. amazonica; others place it in the genus Micropoecilia along with P. parae and P. branneri.
The original japan blue wild type guppy was a Poecilia reticulata collected from Lac du Rorata. Lac du Rorota is a reservoir in French Guiana. Karen Koomans received a single male japan blue guppy and crossed it with Cumana Endler females to preserve the strain. Karen Koomans introduced this strain to the hobby as the 'Japan blue wild type guppy'.
But research is mixed and still hasn't settled the debate of whether fish oil supplements provide as much benefit as consuming fish oil from whole food sources — a.k.a. actual fish.
