I only understand which extensions are played by VLC media player. I don't know which codecs are being distributed/installed by VLC media player or codecs used by VLC media player while playing a video/audio. Also, there is no such thing mentioned about codecs or paying royalties to a licensor in the License Agreement.

Problems With Network Stream Windows 11 Post by timcat4843 » Wed Oct 12, 2022 4:34 pm Ok, I opened the network stream in my VLC player, pasted the URL into it, hit play and nothing happened.
I have just updated my desktop to a new Dell Inspiron Windows 11 Computer. When I download VLC all seems to be well. However when I load a video and play it, a number of things happen. There is no sound. My cursor disappears. Initiating Task Manager does not Work. I am unable to stop the playback (no cursor)
The weird thing is, at the exact same time, subtitles also stopped displaying for Windows Media Player (again, not a Windows Media Player setting issue), although subtitles do still work for Media Player (i.e. the new version of Media Player that comes with Windows 11). I presume VLC and Windows Media Player must share some code to make ...
Re: VLC 3.0.17.4 not playing videos in Windows 11 Post by lzl0cdm » Thu Aug 11, 2022 11:25 pm My computer only had the one account, so I created a new one and confirmed VLC played videos without an issue - this indicated the issue was profile related.
So I am busy re-installing pc's from 4-18 years to Windows 11 manually using Rufus. In older Windows versions, you could go to Windows configuration and click "Use VLC for all supported filetypes". But in Windows 11, you must manually change all 100+ filetypes one by one, that's a lot of work.
Windows 11 context menu Post by Zo0m » Sun Jul 17, 2022 5:38 pm Please update vlc to include add to VLC playlist and play with VLC in the new w11 context menu just like it does in the old context menu so people dont have to click show more every time.
