The 750 SAINT was based on a TR7V (see Roy Bacon's Triumph T140 Bonneville & Derivatives (1973-88) book) not a Bonnie. The TR7V was also the bike used by the AA. The later Bonneville police bikes were T140AV and were all, with the exception of one, T140ES engines.
The original Triumph Bonneville was a 650 cc parallel-twin motorcycle manufactured by Triumph Engineering and later by Norton Villiers Triumph between 1959 and 1974. It was based on the company's Triumph Tiger T110 and was fitted with the Tiger's optional twin 1 3/16 in Amal monobloc carburettors as standard, along with that model's high-performance inlet camshaft.
Essentially a Triumph Bonneville with "West Coast" American styling, the TSX was distinguished by many details. The Triumph Bonneville T120 is a motorcycle originally made by Triumph Engineering from 1959 to 1975. It was the first model of the Bonneville series, which was continued by Triumph Motorcycles Ltd. The T120 was discontinued in favour of the larger 750 cc T140 in the early 1970s. [4]
