The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) created the Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) and the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) Program to raise and maintain professional standards for emergency managers. In 1988–1989, FEMA granted IAEM funds to produce a report on how to accomplish this.

The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) is the national professional association in the field of management in Sri Lanka.It was inaugurated on 31 July 1986 and incorporated by Act of Parliament No. 67 on 17 December 1988, succeeding the Sri Lanka Management Association which was formed on 5 May 1978. The Institution of Incorporated Engineers, Sri Lanka (IIESL) was established in 1977 and incorporated by a Sri Lankan Act of Parliament. The institute registers engineering technologists and Incorporated Engineers under the Sydney Accord. [1]
The University of Sri Lanka was a public university in Sri Lanka. Established in 1972 by amalgamating the four existing universities, it was the only university in Sri Lanka from 1972 until 1978. The university was based at six campuses in Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Moratuwa and Jaffna.
