As of September 2018, the entire 071 Class has been refurbished. Class members that had been out of use for a number of years have been reinstated into service after overhaul. In 2016, several members of the class received a commemorative plaque beneath their handbrakes in recognition of their 40 years of service with CIÉ and Iarnród Éireann.
