The station has been unused since March 1995 when the Western standard gauge line was built to the west of the platform, making it impossible to get to the station from the racecourse without crossing the standard gauge track. [2] There have been calls to extend the overhead to the station to the serve the growing areas west of Werribee.
The line runs from Flinders Street station in central Melbourne to Werribee station in the south-west, serving 17 stations via Footscray, Newport, and Altona. [2] The line operates for approximately 19 hours a day (from approximately 5:00 am to around 12:00 am) with 24 hour service available on Friday and Saturday nights.
