Ballantyne (Charlotte neighborhood) Ballantyne is a neighborhood and developing edge city [5] on the southside of Charlotte, North Carolina, occupying a 2,000-acre (8.1 km 2) area of land adjacent to the South Carolina border. The neighborhood is home to St. Matthew Catholic Church, the largest Catholic congregation in the United States.
The church began as a church plant of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Steven Furtick and seven other families from Christ Covenant Church in Shelby, North Carolina, relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, meeting in Providence High School.
