Robin Evan Roberts (September 30, 1926 – May 6, 2010) was an American Major League Baseball starting pitcher who pitched primarily for the Philadelphia Phillies (1948–1961). He spent the latter part of his career with the Baltimore Orioles (1962–1965), Houston Astros (1965–66), and Chicago Cubs (1966).
Two of those players have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame: pitcher Eppa Rixey, who was a Phillie for six seasons in two different stints (1912–1917, 1919); [4] and Robin Roberts, who won 20 games during the 1950 season as the ace pitcher of the Whiz Kids. [5]
Robin Roberts, the Philadelphia Phillies' ace and opening day starter during the 1950 Phillies season, was inducted into the Philadelphia Baseball Wall of Fame in 1978. In the middle months of the season, the Whiz Kids played strongly, notching winning records of 14–11 in June and 21–13 in July. [ 10 ]
