A summit is a point on a surface that is higher in elevation than all points immediately adjacent to it. The topographic terms acme , apex , peak ( mountain peak ), and zenith are synonymous . The term top ( mountain top ) is generally used only for a mountain peak that is located at some distance from the nearest point of higher elevation.
While Mount Everest's South Summit (height 8,749 m, prominence 11 m [2]) is taller than K2, it is not considered an independent mountain because it is a sub-summit of the main summit (which has a height and prominence of 8,848 m). Many lists of mountains use topographic prominence as a criterion for inclusion in the list, or cutoff.
Mount Everest, Earth's highest mountain. A mountain is an elevated portion of the Earth's crust, generally with steep sides that show significant exposed bedrock.Although definitions vary, a mountain may differ from a plateau in having a limited summit area, and is usually higher than a hill, typically rising at least 300 metres (980 ft) above the surrounding land.
The surfaces are dominated by lava flows, and all have one or more collapse calderas. [39] Mars has the tallest volcano in the Solar System, Olympus Mons, which is more than three times the height of Mount Everest, with a diameter of 520 km (323 miles). The summit of the mountain has six nested calderas. [42]
Speculative theories with more than one time dimension have been explored in physics. The additional dimensions may be similar to conventional time, [1] compactified like the additional spatial dimensions in string theory, [2] or components of a complex time (sometimes referred to as kime).

Volcanic activity during the Holocene Epoch has been documented at only 119 submarine volcanoes, but there may be more than one million geologically young submarine volcanoes on the ocean floor. [ 38 ] [ 39 ] In shallow water, active volcanoes disclose their presence by blasting steam and rocky debris high above the ocean's surface.
