The Spirit of Washington dinner train operated between Renton and Woodinville from May 1992 to July 31, 2007. The last train over the trestle was a BNSF freight carrying Boeing 737 fuselages to Renton, on February 26, 2008. In May 2008 BNSF sold the railway line to the Port of Seattle, which in turn later sold it to King County.
The Columbia Basin Railroad was established in 1986 as part of the Washington Central Railroad Company, which bought 230 miles (370 km) of railway in Central Washington from Burlington Northern. [2] The company, owned by Eric Temple, also owned the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train operating in King County, Washington. [3]
The line was completed more than a century ago, between 1887 and 1904 [1] [2] by the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway and by Northern Pacific Railroad.The northern section between present day Woodinville and Snohomish was completed in 1888 [3] and the section between Renton and Woodinville known as "The Belt Line" was completed in 1904. This 5-mile (8 km) route allows museum visitors to experience a train excursion aboard antique railroad coaches dating to 1915 and earlier. Trains are scheduled either Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday depending on the time of year, with chartered or special trains on various days. The railroad typically carries over 60,000 passengers per year.
