State Route 128 (SR 128) is part of Maine's systems of numbered state highways, running from SR 127 in Woolwich, passing SR 197 in Dresden, and ending at SR 27 at Dresden. Route description [ edit ]
SR 127 was originally created in 1925 and ran between Gardiner and Wiscasset. The following year, that route became SR 27, and SR 127 was moved to its current route.SR 127 originally ran to the shoreline, but in 2003, it was truncated to a rural intersection.
Dresden is drained by the Kennebec River and the Eastern River, which merges into the former at the southern tip of Green Point and the southeastern side of Swan Island. The Eastern River has long been a favored spot to fish for smelt in shacks centered above holes made in the winter ice.
SR 24 then branches off SR 197. A bridge carries SR 197 across the Kennebec River, into Lincoln County, and into the town of Dresden. It then junctions SR 128, crosses the Eastern River, and turns onto Middle Rd (This is also a junction with the northern terminus of SR 127).
Alna was the site of the first fish hatchery in Maine, started shortly after the Civil War. Between 1895 and 1933, the narrow gauge Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway operated three stations in the town: Head Tide, Alna Center, and Sheepscot.
