Christ's Hospital was the first hospital in Topeka, founded in 1884. [3] The hospital was conceived and developed by the Rt. Rev. Thomas H. Vail (1812–1889), then the Episcopal bishop of the Kansas diocese. The bishop and his wife had already created Kansas's first training school for nurses, Christ's Hospital School of Nursing, in 1892.
