Porches Pottery is a producer of hand-painted pottery in the town of Porches, in the Algarve region of Portugal. The pottery style was founded in 1968 by artists Patrick Swift and Lima de Freitas , in order to revive a traditional Algarve pottery industry.
She began working with ceramics in the late 1960s, learning the technique of floor-standing kilns in Ribolhos in the Viseu District from Maestro Albino, considered the last traditional potter in Portugal. The museum collection features decorative ceramic tiles or azulejos from the second half of the 15th century to the present day. Besides tiles, it includes ceramics, porcelain and faience from the 19th to the 20th century. Its permanent exhibition starts with a display of the materials and techniques used for manufacturing tiles.
Contemporary ceramics are represented with work from artists such as Artigas, Llorens Gardy, Júlio Pomar, Manuel Cargaleiro e Cecília de Sousa. There is also a collection of glazed tile work which is made up of around 1200 tiles and 40 panels, including Portuguese, Hispanic-moorish and duch examples from the 16th to the 20th century.
The Ceramics Museum of Sacavém (Portuguese: Museu de Cerâmica de Sacavém) is situated in the town of Sacavém in the municipality of Loures, just northeast of Lisbon in Portugal.
