The 2020 novel The Phone Box at the Edge of the World by Italian writer Laura Imai Messina tells the story of a woman who loses her family in the Tōhoku tsunami and travels to the wind phone, where she meets a widower and his daughter who have experienced similar losses. The novel was inspired by Messina's visit to the Ōtsuchi wind phone in 2011.

Maia was born on 8 October 1937 in Ponte de Sor in the Portalegre District of Portugal’s Alentejo region. Her full name was Maria Laura de Carvalho Santana Maia. Her father, António Maria Santana Maia, who originally came from the nearby parish of Mouriscas in the Santarém District, was a lawyer and notary as well as a farmer.

Laura Ballarin Cereza (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈlawɾa βaˈʎaɾin θeˈɾeθa]; born 19 July 1984 in Barcelona) is a Spanish politician from the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2023.
She began her career as an artist in the 80's focusing in photography and painting. She has received numerous awards including the Premio Leonardo en Fotografía Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in 2002, the Gran premio de Honor in Ceramics in 1989 and the Grant of Secretaría de Cultura de la Nación in 1985.
