Poultry meat allergy is a rare food allergy in humans caused by consumption of poultry meat (commonly chicken and turkey) whereby the body triggers an immune reaction and becomes overloaded with immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies. [1] [2] It can co-occur with egg allergy but more often occurs without allergy to poultry eggs.
Chicken. Fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome (also referred to as fatty liver syndrome or FLHS), a disease in chickens and other birds. Birds with this disease have large amounts of fat deposited in their liver and abdomen. [1] This often results in an enlarged liver that is easily damaged and prone to bleeding. [2]
Doxycycline can cause gastrointestinal upset. [70] [71] Oral doxycycline can cause pill esophagitis, particularly when it is swallowed without adequate fluid, or by persons with difficulty swallowing or impaired mobility. [72] Doxycycline is less likely than other antibiotic drugs to cause Clostridioides difficile colitis. [73]
The disease can persist in the flock for 2-3 weeks and signs of the disease are seen 1–3 days after infection. Transmission of the disease is through direct interaction, airborne droplets, and drinking contaminated water. Chickens having infection and those carriers contribute highly to the disease transmission. [2] [3]
Dermanyssus gallinae (also known as the red mite) is a haematophagous ectoparasite of poultry. It has been implicated as a vector of several major pathogenic diseases. In 1950, chickens took roughly 16 weeks to reach the ideal weight for sale. Now, chickens are ready to be processed in half that time, thanks to selective breeding and specialized diets.
Thus, chickens can be infected carriers for a long time because they are not removed or medicated by their owners, and they do not die or stop eating/defecating. H. gallinarum eggs can remain infective in soil for four years, a high risk of transmitting blackhead to turkeys remains if they graze areas with chicken feces [ 5 ] in this time frame.
