Lake Wawasee is the largest natural lake in Indiana, while Lake Tippecanoe is the deepest lake, reaching depths of over 120 feet (37 m). Both lakes are located in Kosciusko County. Chain O' Lakes State Park, located in Noble County, contains 11 lakes, 8 of which are connected by natural channels.

The National Inventory of Dams defines any "major dam" as being 50 feet (15 m) tall with a storage capacity of at least 5,000 acre-feet (6,200,000 m 3), or of any height with a storage capacity of 25,000 acre-feet (31,000,000 m 3).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Lake Eliza CDP has an area of 0.54 square miles (1.40 km 2), of which 0.48 square miles (1.24 km 2) are land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km 2), or 12.52%, are water. [1] The lake outlet is at its south end, flowing into Wolf Creek, part of the Kankakee River watershed leading to the Illinois River.
In the northwest part of the state, it includes the Grand Calumet River area in Lake and Porter counties, and includes the cities of Gary and Hammond.
