Lake Bomoseen (/ ˈ b ɑː m ə z iː n / BAH-muh-zeen) [1] is a freshwater lake in the western part of the U.S. state of Vermont in the towns of Castleton and Hubbardton in Rutland County. It is the largest lake that lies entirely within the state's boundaries, with a surface area of approximately 2,400 acres (9.6 km 2 ).
Fort Dummer State Park is part of the Vermont State Park system. It comprises 217 acres (878,000 m²) of forest in Brattleboro, Guilford & Vernon . The park overlooks the former site of Fort Dummer which was flooded when the Vernon Dam was built on the Connecticut River in 1908.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 74.2 square miles (192.2 km 2), of which 73.0 square miles (189.1 km 2) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km 2 or 1.62%) is water. It is the largest town by area in Vermont, slightly larger than Stowe in Lamoille County.
The park's total area is 1,300 acres (530 ha), and it is flanked in part by eastern sections of the 21,000-acre (8,500 ha) Calvin Coolidge State Forest. The western section, or Pinney Hollow block, is 800 acres (320 ha) in size, and houses the park maintenance facilities, located at the site of the CCC camp where workers who built the park lived.
