Lake McKenzie (Boorangoora) is a perched lake on K'gari or Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia. [1] The lake is located in the Great Sandy National Park. The lake is located 6.2 km southeast of Kingfisher Resort. It is 1,200 metres long and up to 930 metres wide. It is approximately 80 hectares (200 acres) in area.
McKenzie Lake is about 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) long and 1.1 kilometres (0.7 mi) wide and lies at an elevation of 395 metres (1,296 ft). It is roughly L-shaped, with the long axis running south-southwest to north-northeast, and the smaller extension running to about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) to the south off the western end.
Initially, the north flowing rivers followed the front of the glacier eastward and into a valley that passed between Garrison and Riverdale, to the Turtle Lake area, and on into Sheridan County. This is known as the preglacial McClean River. [2] This valley became blocked by the glacier and the glacial lake identified as Lake McKenzie formed.
