Prospect is a town in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States. [2] It is a suburb of the nearby city of Waterbury to its north, and is on the north-eastern fringes of the New York metropolitan area. The population was estimated to be 9,401 in 2020. [3] Prospect is part of the Waterbury NECTA [4] and of the historical New Haven County.

Route 68 then leaves the Naugatuck River Valley and ascends to Prospect, where it intersects Route 69 in the center of town. It then descends once again into Cheshire, where it joins Route 70 for a 3.1 mile concurrency. In the center of Cheshire, the concurrency becomes a 0.15 mile triplex with Route 10.
Parts of modern Route 69 belonged to two separate state highways in the 1920s. The road from Prospect to Waterbury was designated as State Highway 348, while the road from Waterbury to Bristol was known as State Highway 172. Route 69 was created in the 1932 state highway renumbering as a direct route from New Haven to Waterbury.
The road then clips the town of Prospect for about 0.4 miles (as Mountain Road) before entering the town of Cheshire. In Cheshire, the road name becomes Bethany Mountain Road as it traverses the ridge separating Prospect/Bethany and Cheshire (part of the Metacomet Ridge).
