Typical Vertical Mess as Depiction of the Dada Baargeld (1920) Johannes Theodor Baargeld was a pseudonym of Alfred Emanuel Ferdinand Grünwald (9 October 1892 – 16 or 17 August 1927), a German painter and poet who, together with Max Ernst, founded the Cologne Dada group. He also used the name Zentrodada in connection with Dada.
Members included: Johannes Baader, Raoul Hausmann, Tristan Tzara, George Grosz, Marcel Janco, Hans Arp, Franz Jung, Eugen Ernst, A.R. Meyer and Richard Huelsenbeck. [2] Their shocking political tactics and social antics influenced many later counter-cultural movements, such as the Youth International Party and the punk rock movement.

Max Ernst (2 April 1891 – 1 April 1976) was a German (naturalised American in 1948 and French in 1958) painter, sculptor, printmaker, graphic artist, and poet. [1] A prolific artist, Ernst was a primary pioneer of the Dada movement and surrealism in Europe. [1]
It was to become the most famous of all Berlin Dada's exploits. It featured almost 200 works by artists including Hans Arp, Max Ernst, Hannah Höch, Francis Picabia, and Rudolf Schlichter, as well as key works by George Grosz, John Heartfield and Raoul Hausmann.
