St Leonards School is a co-educational private boarding and day school for pupils aged 4–19 in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. [2] Founded in 1877 as St Andrews School for Girls Company, it adopted the St Leonards name upon moving to its current premises, the site formerly occupied by the University of St Andrews’ St Leonard's College, in 1883.
Because schooling for girls was not compulsory until after 1871, there were probably fewer schools for girls in Croydon. At St Andrew's, there were four classes all taught in one room at the same time. [3] The boys' school opened with 23 pupils and numbers were never as high as in the girls’ school.
In October 1929, the school qualified to become a government grant-aided secondary school. There were 153 students, of whom 51 were boarders. The Jamaica Schools' Commission recommended that the name be changed to St. Andrew High School for Girls. In 1940, the school had 270 students—68 boarders and 202 daytime attendees.
In September 2013 Rushmoor School and St Andrew's School entered into a federation. Both schools retained their own identity and governing body, but shared resources and had one principal. [3] In September 2016 both schools opened a combined sixth form. [4] In early 2014, the schools released plans to move to a combined site on the edge of Bedford.
St Andrew's Church Clifton Road, Worthing was consecrated on Trinity Sunday, 27 May 1888.However it was to be a further nine years before the school was opened. Lady Loder, of Beach House, bought the land north of the church in 1893, at a cost of £580, for a school.
