Offset printing is a common printing technique in which the inked image is transferred (or "offset") from a plate to a rubber blanket and then to the printing surface. When used in combination with the lithographic process, which is based on the repulsion of oil and water, the offset technique employs a flat (planographic) image carrier.
In 1988, the company acquired Itek Graphix, a leading manufacturer of plate-makers for duplicators (small format offset presses). By the late 1990s, A. B. Dick was a division of the Nesco company of Cleveland. [2] The company filed for bankruptcy in 2004, and its assets were acquired by Presstek, a manufacturer of prepress products. [8]
McBrayer is best known for inventing the Vanguard web offset press for newspaper printing. [2] [3] After five years of effort and experimentation, he ultimately succeeded in modifying an offset printing press designed for book printing and adapting it for printing newspapers: the result was the Vanguard web offset press, which he unveiled in 1954 in Fort Worth.
Harris and Goss were two companies that led in the development of web offset presses. The Goss Community press, which is still in production as of 2014, was an affordable solution for small and mid-size newspapers, and they frequently bought Compugraphic typesetting equipment at the same time.

John R. Thistlethwaite Jr. (July 16, 1918 – April 6, 1996) was an American journalist who founded the Daily World of Opelousas, Louisiana on December 24, 1939, the first American small town daily newspaper to use offset and photo-offset printing. Ducote “Duke” Andrepont was the newspaper's cofounder.
