Black Canyon offers two campgrounds - one on each rim. There is also a campground at the bottom of the canyon called East Portal. Although accessed through the park, East Portal is within the boundary of Curecanti National Recreation Area.
Park rangers offer guided snowshoe programs among the oaks, open meadows, and along the canyon rim of the Black Canyon. Geology talks are also offered daily. Check the calendar for program times. Cross Country Skiing In winter, the South Rim Drive is closed to vehicles beyond Gunnison Point.

The Gunnison River within Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is designated as Gold Medal Water & Wild Trout Water. Streams and rivers in Colorado are designated as Gold Medal Waters by the state wildlife commission because they provide outstanding angling opportunities for large trout.
