The Sacketts is a 1979 American made-for-television Western miniseries directed by Robert Totten and starring Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck, Jeff Osterhage, and Glenn Ford.Based on the novels The Daybreakers (1960) and Sackett (1961) by Louis L'Amour, the film recounts the story of the Sackett brothers in 1869 who leave their Tennessee home and start a new life together in Santa Fe.

Nathaniel Sackett (April 10, 1737 – July 28, 1805) was the spymaster appointed by General George Washington to create a network of civilian spies located in New York during the American Revolution. Sackett and his new spy ring would report to William Duer , a Continental Congressman, and General Washington.
In addition to directing, Totten also co-starred in Gunsmoke playing the role of Corley, opposite of Nehemiah Persoff, in the 1969 episode "The Mark of Cain,".And among others, as the childhood friend of Festus, in self-titled episode, "Cleavus".
