The headwaters of the Duffins Creek are located in the Oak Ridges Moraine area, [20] within the boundaries of Uxbridge, Pickering, Markham, and Whitchurch-Stouffville. Duffins cabin was located on the east side of the Creek, north of Kingston Road. [9] Augustus Jones, who surveyed the area for the Government of Upper Canada in 1791, named the Duffins Creek after him. [6] [8] The municipality that contained the area was known as Edinburgh Township until 1792, when it was renamed to Pickering Township. [11]
The Hotel Adams was a luxury hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. Built in 1896, the hotel burned to the ground in 1910. The blaze left two people dead and the territorial governor of Arizona homeless. The hotel was rebuilt on the same location in 1911 and imploded in 1973 to make way for a third hotel, currently the Renaissance.

[6] After the British conquest of New France in 1760, the area became part of the Pickering Township. Mike Duffin, an Irish fur trader, is the earliest known European to have settled in the area, in the 1770s. [7]
In 1893, Phoenix pioneer and businessman A.D. Walsh had a hotel erected on the corner of what is now known as 6th Avenue and Adams Street and named it the 6th Avenue Hotel. The proper address of the building, which originally was a two-story brick Victorian styled structure, is 546 W. Adams Street.
The stream is named after Richard Carruthers (1819-1887), an English immigrant from Cumberland, whose family owned 202 acres along the banks of the Creek.Carruthers, a farmer, purchased Lots 4 and 5 on Concession Road 1 in January 1856 and September 1862, and the land remained in his family until at least the 1940s.
