The Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is a standardized test conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit officers to various engineering Services under the Government of India.

In 2020 Railways separated itself from Engineering Services Exam (ESE) and made Indian Railway Management Services (IRMS).
The recruitment to the IRSE was done through the Engineering Services Examination exam until 2022. From 2023 onwards, recruitment is done through the Indian Railway Management service exam conducted separately only for the sole purpose of the 8 combined railway services. The combined services include:
