Velez College is a private educational institution in Cebu City, Cebu, widely known for offering allied health degrees. It was founded by Dr. Jacinto Velez Sr. in 1952, who was then chairman of the board of trustees of Cebu (Velez) General Hospital School of Nursing. The Liberal Arts department (now College of Arts and Sciences) was established in 1977 and the department of Nursing (now College of Nursing) was created in 1982. The school was then renamed as "Cebu Normal College" in 1966, then to "Cebu State College" in 1976 in accordance to P.D. 944.
Cebu Doctors' University was organized in 1973 as Cebu Doctors' College and was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1976. Its first campus was located adjacent to the present Cebu Doctors' University Hospital. Cebu Doctors' College of Nursing (CDU-CN) was the first College of the university when it was opened in 1973.
In June 2004, the B.S. in Nursing started its first operation due to the huge demand of nurses at the time. The university's College of Nursing held its 1st Capping, Badge Investiture and Candle Lighting Ceremony in June 2006 at the Recoletos Coliseum, Basak Campus.
The university once had a South Campus (Basak Campus) on E. Sabellano St., Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City. The South Campus has since closed and has been in operation by another school. The closed South Campus formerly housed the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and the Elementary and High School Training Departments.
