Coats is a town in Harnett County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,155 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] Coats is a part of the Anderson Creek Micropolitan Area, which is a part of the greater Raleigh–Durham–Cary Combined Statistical Area (CSA) as defined by the United States Census Bureau .
Coats was founded in about 1887 [4] by William A. Coats, and named for him. [5] Coats was incorporated as a city within the now-defunct Grant Township in 1909. [6] The town formerly hosted a stop on the Wichita & Englewood division Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad and had a weekly newspaper (the Courant).
