The Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) is an arboreal marsupial herbivore native to Australia, and the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae. The Koala is found in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia, from near Adelaide to the southern part of Cape York Peninsula .

Until the end of June 2024, visitors were allowed to hold some of the koalas at the sanctuary for a fee with strict regulations ensure that each koala was not held for more than thirty minutes every day with other rules to ensure animal welfare, e.g. only holding captive-bred koalas with a suitable temperament.
