The leisure park, which opened in 1989, was a development initiated by local Dorset businessman Bill Riddle, who operated a landfill site in the area. [2] The site chosen for the park was at Mannings Heath, [1] on 53 acres of heathland just outside Poole. [2]
Splashdown Poole has 13 slides, 8 indoor and 5 outdoor. These are: Infinity, a short bowl slide from 2002, originally called Space Bowl. The slide consists of a short enclosed tube section, followed by a large enclosed bowl element where riders helix in the bowl before losing momentum and falling through a hole in the middle into a 2 meters (6.6 ft) landing pool.
Built in 1967 on the site of the original fire tower (1922–1962), the scenic lookout is open to cars from late spring until Thanksgiving. Snowmobilers can access the tower in the winter months. The tower as well as the ridge is a dominant geographical feature in Dorset as it can be seen from almost anywhere within Dorset.
