The Thatched Barn was a two-storey mock-Tudor hotel built in the 1930s on the Barnet by-pass in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, England.It was bought by holiday camp founder, Billy Butlin, before being requisitioned as Station XV by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) in World War Two, and used to train secret agents.
Elstree / ˈ ɛ l z t r i / is a large village in the Hertsmere borough of Hertfordshire, England.It is about 15 miles (24 kilometres) northwest of central London on the former A5 road, that follows the course of Watling Street.
Elstree and Borehamwood is a civil parish in the Hertsmere district, in Hertfordshire, England. Located approximately 12 miles (19 km) northwest of central London and adjacent to the Greater London boundary, it is an urbanised parish with suburban residential development, some open land and light industry.

What is now a Holiday Inn was formerly a Moat House, a hotel built in 1989. It is the site of The Thatched Barn, a roadhouse on the A1 built in 1927 and frequented by stars from Elstree Studios.
The hotels cater mainly to tourists visiting the Elstree Studios, attendees of the television shows being recorded in the Elstree Studios, and London visitors due to the proximity to London and the considerable lower accommodation rates. There is one weekly newspaper, the Borehamwood & Elstree Times.
