James Jackson Curnock (9 June 1839 - 17 November 1891) was an English landscape painter in the Romantic tradition and became an accomplished recorder of Wales’ landscapes in watercolours. Born in Bristol , he also painted scenes further afield in Cornwall, Dartmoor and occasional parts of Scotland in the genre of landscape painting .
One of the finest landscape painters of his day, he is mainly associated with pictures of cattle or sheep, [5] a fact that earned him the epithet "Cow Cooper". [8] Cooper collaborated between 1847 and 1870 with Frederick Richard Lee R.A. on several paintings, Lee undertaking the landscapes, and Cooper adding animals to complete the scene. [ 9 ]
William Daniell was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey.His father was a bricklayer and owner of a public house called The Swan in nearby Chertsey.Daniell's future was dramatically changed when he was sent to live with his uncle, the landscape artist Thomas Daniell (1749–1840) after his father's premature death in 1779.

After Eliza's death in 1900, he moved to Kirk Ireton and later married fellow artist Kate Stevens Smith (1871-1964) - they set up home in Idridgehay where he died in 1910. His son William Lakin Turner (1867-1936) also became a landscape oil painter. [3]
