Sigatoka was incorporated as a town in 1959, and is governed by a 10-member Sigatoka Town Council, elected for a three-year term.At the last municipal elections, held on 22 October 2005, all 10 seats were won by a coalition of the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SDL) and the National Federation Party (NFP).
Black sigatoka is a leaf-spot disease of banana plants caused by the ascomycete fungus Mycosphaerella fijiensis (Morelet), also known as black leaf streak. It was discovered in 1963 and named for its similarities with yellow Sigatoka, which is caused by Mycosphaerella musicola (Mulder), which was itself named after the Sigatoka Valley in Fiji .
Kula WILD Adventure Park is Fiji's biggest Family Fun Park and an ecological preserve in Fiji.It is located on Fiji's largest island, Viti Levu, near Sigatoka.The area was originally established as a bird park in the 1980s, but was bought by Kula Management in January 1997. [2]
