The farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 12, 2009 and the listing was announced as the featured listing in the National Park Service's weekly list of August 21, 2009. [5] Currently the main house of the Roswell and Elizabeth Garst Farmstead Historic District is the office for the Whiterock Conservancy.
Roswell Garst's parents were Edward Garst and Bertha Goodwin. He married Elizabeth Henak on January 31, 1921. Garst was founder of Garst & Thomas Co., which became one of the world's largest producers of hybrid seed corn. In the 1930s, Garst traveled around the Midwest convincing farmers of the benefits of hybrid seed corn.
The main office of Whiterock Conservancy is the historic Roswell and Elizabeth Garst Farmstead, which is also an active bed and breakfast and part of the Whiterock Resort. In 1997, the farm house and surrounding lands became an agritourism destination [4] which later became the Whiterock Resort in 2007. [5]

The Roswell Historic District, in Roswell, Georgia in Fulton County, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. [1] The district is a 120 acres (49 ha) area roughly bounded by Big Creek, King and Dam Streets, and SW along New Marietta Hwy, in Roswell. Structures in the district date from as early as 1837. [2]
It consists of a house belonging to a farm along with the surrounding buildings. [1] The characteristics of a specific farmstead reflect the local landscape, which provides their environmental context. Some farmsteads have additional outlying field barns and outfarms somewhat further afield than the main cluster of buildings at the farmstead. [2]
In 1931, Garst and Thomas Hi-Bred Corn Company was founded by Roswell Garst and Charley Thomas in Coon Rapids, Iowa, and was "instrumental in promoting the use of hybrid corn." [ 1 ] During the Cold War , Garst formed a relationship with Nikita Khrushchev and assisted the USSR in modernizing its corn production.
