The Diocese of Venice in Florida (Latin: Dioecesis Venetiae in Florida) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory–or diocese, of the Catholic Church in southwest Florida in the United States. It was founded on June 16, 1984. Frank Dewane has been bishop since 2007.
The Patriarchate of Venice (Italian: Patriarcato di Venezia; Latin: Patriarchatus Venetiarum), also sometimes called the Archdiocese of Venice, is a patriarchate of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church, located in the Metropolitan City of Venice. Its episcopal seat is in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Mark in Venice.
In the case of Venice, an additional privilege allows the patriarch, even if he is not a cardinal, the use of the colour red in non-liturgical vestments. In that case, the red biretta is topped by a tuft, as is the custom with other bishops who are not cardinals. The diocese of Venice was created in 774 as suffragan of the Patriarchate of Grado.
Its principal diocese is the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice and the Patriarch of Venice is the metropolitan bishop of the province. The province's other dioceses are those of Adria-Rovigo , Belluno-Feltre , Chioggia , Concordia-Pordenone , Padua , Treviso , Verona , Vicenza and Vittorio Veneto .

This number includes the Holy See and the Patriarchate of Venice. There are also four archdioceses which are non-metropolitan, having been demoted by papal decree.
Bishop John J. Nevins was installed as the diocese's first bishop. Two years later Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Venice was founded from Epiphany Cathedral. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Osprey was founded from the cathedral in 2001. On July 25, 2006 Frank J. Dewane was ordained coadjutor bishop of Venice. [3]
Dewane was ordained to the priesthood at Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay for the Diocese of Green Bay by Cardinal Adam Maida on July 16, 1988. [1] After his 1988 ordination, the diocese assigned Dewane as assistant pastor at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Green Bay, Wisconsin, until 1991. He worked for the diocesan tribunal as well.
