The Bihar Police Academy trains officers of the Bihar Police, who have been selected through Examination conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission and Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission. The trained officers are then posted in their respective ranks in various parts of the states under whom the other sub-ranks of police force work.
It also coordinates police and law and order related matters with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The department ensures the security arrangements of citizens, VIPs and state guests and also is the cadre controlling authority of Indian Police Service , and Bihar Police Service.
Entire recruitment to the service is made on the basis of an annual competitive examination conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission called BAS officers. There is no provision for entry into BAS through promotion from Circle Officers of Bihar Revenue Service (BRS) unlike in most states where Tehsildar and equivalent revenue officers are promoted into their state administrative service.
