The South Island line (Chinese: 南港島綫), is a rapid transit line of Hong Kong's MTR metro system.This line connects the Hong Kong business district from Admiralty station to the Southern District of Hong Kong Island and the island of Ap Lei Chau, which was not served by any rail transport prior to the opening of the line. The station was built by the Leighton Asia – John Holland Joint Venture under Contract 904, awarded May 2011, which also included Lei Tung station and sections of running tunnel. [2] It was constructed using the cut-and-cover method. [3]
It carries the MTR's South Island line over the Aberdeen Channel, linking Lei Tung station and Wong Chuk Hang station. Its name reflects the channel the bridge crosses. The bridge carries one track of traffic in each direction. Construction of the bridge started in 2011 and was initially set to complete in 2015.
