Tulare County (/ t ʊ ˈ l ɛər i / ⓘ tuu-LAIR-ee) is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 473,117. [4] The county seat is Visalia. [6] The county is named for Tulare Lake, once the largest freshwater lake west of the Great Lakes.
From 1910 to 1919 the County of Tulare maintained the Tulare County Free Library system under the laws of the State of California at the same location. In 1926 the city of Visalia offered to furnish a site and pay one-half the construction cost as well as to pay its share of maintenance for a new library building for the county.
