Ras Al Khaimah (Arabic: رَأْس ٱلْخَيْمَة), often referred to its initials RAK is the largest city and capital of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The city had a population of 400,000 in 2023, [ 3 ] and is the sixth-most populous city in UAE after Dubai , Abu Dhabi , Sharjah , Al Ain and Ajman .
Ras Al Khaimah has been the site of continuous human habitation for 7,000 years, one of the few places in the country and the world where this is the case, [8] and there are many historical and archaeological sites throughout the emirate - local sources cite 1,000 [9] - dating from different time periods, including remnants of the Umm Al Nar Culture (3rd millennium BC). The three monumental tombs were all stone-built, corbelled structures and stand as some of the largest tombs from the Wadi Suq period found in Ras Al Khaimah. While most of the graves found were dated to late in this period, one of the tombs was identified as transitional from the earlier Umm Al Nar period (2600–2000 BCE). [4]
