The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple is a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in the Logan Square neighborhood of Philadelphia. Completed in 2016, the intent to construct the temple was announced on October 4, 2008, during the church's general conference by LDS Church president Thomas S. Monson . [ 3 ]
The monastery was founded in 1986 in a South Philadelphia row house. In 2010, the community acquired a 238,000-square-foot plot of land, where the current temple stands. The temple complex took nearly a decade to complete as the project was funded over time through donations from the local community. [1]

When opened, it was named Verizon Hall to recognize a contribution of $14.5 million from the communications company.
