The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is a public research university located in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. [2] [3] It is among the universities owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria and was founded in 1970. [4] The school currently has two campuses with fifteen faculties including a central library called the John Harris Library. [5]

Lilian Imuetinyan Salami (born 8 August 1956) is a Nigerian academic who was the vice-chancellor of the University of Benin between 2 December 2019 to 2 December 2024. [1] [2] She is the second female vice-chancellor of the university after Grace Alele-Williams in 1985.

Grace Alele-Williams OON, FMAN, FNAE (16 December 1932 – 25 March 2022) was a Nigerian professor of mathematics education, [1] [2] who made history as the first Nigerian woman to receive a doctorate, [3] [4] and the first Nigerian female vice-chancellor at the University of Benin.
He obtained a Master in (Economics) Money and Banking from the University of Benin (Nigeria), Benin City Nigeria in 1997. He is currently a part-time PhD student (Environmental Resource Management) with effect from 2017 at the School of Postgraduate Studies, Nasarawa State University Keffi, Nigeria. [9] [10] [11]
