The Chicago Street Course is a 2.140 mi (3.444 km) street circuit in Grant Park in the city of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It currently hosts the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series , with the first races run on July 1–2, 2023.
In its inaugural year, the race attracted around 1000 participants. By 1992, the race had grown to nearly 7,500 participants. By 2007, the race had attracted over 30,000 runners. The number of participants is capped at 32,500. [1] In 1993, the race began offering prize money to the top finishers. They offered a purse of $2,000 the first year.
The Grant Park 165, taking place at 3:30 p.m. July 7, is 75 laps around the course — 25 fewer laps than last year’s street race. The Loop 110 will be 50 laps on July 6.
The last race was held on September 25, 2021, with a 9-race event. The winner of the final race held at Arlington (which was named "The Luxembourg" after the winner of the first race at the track), was Sister Ruler. The final day was capped off with a showing of a documentary on the fire at the track and a fireworks show. [citation needed]
Similarly, the Xfinity Series Chicago street race was named The Loop 121 after the Chicago Loop, the area of the city in which the street course is located. It was also announced on that day that the Cup Series race would be 220 miles and 100 laps in length.
