On June 22, 2023, a severe thunderstorm produced a high end EF-1 tornado around 3:30 pm. The tornado touched down near Colorado State Highway 470 and tracked 8.36 miles through Highlands Ranch and into Lone Tree. [12] The tornado caused extensive tree, roof and fence damage, but no injuries were reported. [13]
According to the local county tourism board, Lone Tree "was founded in 1860 with a post office and a few businesses, but it was never a thriving village."
